There are three types of artichoke, the Globe Artichoke, the Jerusalem and the Chinese. They differ primarily in the edible part of each, in that the above-ground part of the Globe variety is eaten whereas with the other two it is the tuber.

Artichoke Hill itself is named after the pub that stands on the corner which is now renamed the Caxton.
