Ham Yard, Soho
previous next

Ham is the haunch of a pig or boar, which is commonly salted and dried or smoked.

Ham Yard gets its name from a tavern built around 1730 on this site called the Ham and Windmill, itself named after a brick windmill that stood here until about 1780. The pub was renamed at the end of the 19th century to the Lyric Tavern.
