Since
about 1750 there has been – and still is – a tavern on this
site. During the early stages of its business a sailor who had frequented
the pub before journeying overseas, returned and offered the landlord a
strange spiky fruit. Enjoying this new fruit so much, the landlord pinned
the pineapple leaves to the door and henceforth the pub became known as
the Pineapple. The road subsequently became named after the tavern, although
the pub itself is now known by a different name. |
