The turkey is a large game bird with a bald head, native to North America. It is largely domesticated and is prized as food, being particularly popular on festive occasions such as Christmas and, in the United States and Canada, Thanksgiving Day. Turkeys are usually roasted whole, although when jointed, the meat can be cooked by a variety of different methods.
